MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Head of the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) of Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) dr. Corona Rintawan was honored with the prestigious Outstanding Healthcare Worker award in the category of Health Crisis Management. The recognition was bestowed upon him by the Indonesian Ministry of Health at a ceremony held in Jakarta and attended by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.
Known for his extensive experience in disaster response, dr. Corona Rintawan has been at the forefront of medical aid efforts both domestically and internationally. His journey in emergency medicine began in 2003 under the Muhammadiyah umbrella, where he has since excelled in leading medical teams during critical situations.
Budi Setiawan, head of MDMC, commended dr. Corona Rintawan’s commitment to humanitarian work. He highlighted the physician’s readiness to deploy to disaster-stricken areas, regardless of personal challenges.
“dr. Corona’s appointment as head of the EMT demonstrates his leadership and expertise. His ability to lead and inspire his team has been crucial to the success of numerous emergency response operations domestically and internationally. What he has done has brought immense pride to Muhammadiyah,” said Budi Setiawan.
Interestingly, the name “Corona,” which coincidentally aligns with the COVID-19 virus, holds special significance for dr. Corona Rintawan. His extensive experience as the Head of the Muhammadiyah COVID-19 Command Center (MCCC), leading medical teams during the pandemic, further reinforced his credentials for this award.
Beyond his contributions to domestic disaster response, dr. Corona Rintawan has also participated in numerous international emergency missions. These include assisting victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines in 2013, conducting evacuation and recovery efforts for earthquake victims in Bangladesh in 2015, and providing aid to Rohingya refugees in 2017.
Expressing gratitude for the recognition, dr. Corona Rintawan emphasized that this recognition was not solely his achievement but a result of the collective efforts of his team.
“I believe that our intentions are what drive us. Every action should be seen as an act of worship and an opportunity to utilize the knowledge we have acquired to the best of our ability,” said dr. Corona Rintawan. He encouraged others to continue serving with sincerity and dedication, emphasizing the importance of ongoing learning and training.
