MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA — President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir expressed gratitude for the visit of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, to the Muhammadiyah headquarters, Yogyakarta on Wednesday, November 13.
During his remarks, Haedar highlighted the critical role of collaboration between the government and private sectors in advancing the national education system. He emphasized the shared commitment of Muhammadiyah and the government to enhancing the quality of education in Indonesia.
“We thank the Minister and his entourage for visiting Muhammadiyah. We are also pleased that various educational programs we have implemented have received positive feedback from the public and a good response from netizens,” said Haedar.
Haedar further highlighted the indispensable role of private education in Indonesia, which has existed since before independence, in expanding access to education.
“If education in Indonesia were without the role of the private sector, not only would we lose out, but Indonesia as a whole would also suffer,” Haedar asserted. He stressed the importance of strong cooperation with the government to ensure the sustainability of private education and its ability to contribute to society.
Haedar also reminded the significance of the concept of mutual cooperation within Indonesian society. He hoped that whoever serves as the Minister of Education would not view the private sector as subordinate or marginalized. “If there are policies that marginalize the private sector, it is not only we who will suffer, but the nation also,” Haedar emphasized.
Haedar also drew attention to the need to improve the quality of national education, which he believes still faces significant challenges. “Our Human Development Index (HDI) is still low, and the average IQ of Indonesians is also below standard. This shows how heavy the burden of our education is,” he stated.
Haedar expressed his hope that Abdul Mu’ti would be successful in carrying out his duties as Minister of Primary and Secondary Education.
“We believe that Mr. Mu’ti, along with his team, has the potential to lead national education towards progress. Muhammadiyah is ready to collaborate with anyone, including the government, to achieve this common goal,” said Haedar.
