MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah welcomed a delegation from the Maldives led by Minister of Religious Affairs Ibrahim Asim on Monday, November 11. The visit included a group of imams from the Maldives.
The Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Anwar Abbas mentioned that the visit aimed to strengthen relations between the Maldives and Muhammadiyah. Since the majority of the population in the Maldives is Muslims, the visit also reinforced relations between the Maldives and Indonesia. He also expected to undertake a reciprocal visit to the Maldives.
“The relations between two parties may strengthen our faith,” said Anwar Abbas.
He also hoped that the meeting would inspire the revival of Islamic civilization in the future. He emphasized that the Muslim majority should be leveraged as a potential power to build a more advanced civilization.
Meanwhile, Ibrahim Asim thanked for the warm welcome by Muhammadiyah, the greatest modern Islamic organization. He was pleased to visit Muhammadiyah.
Muhammadiyah has a great number of universities, hospitals, and other Muhammadiyah institutions that provide services to Muslims and all those in need.
“We are very grateful, today we have known and gained much knowledge from Muhammadiyah,” he said.
To the group of imams from the Maldives, Ibrahim Asim hoped that the valuable lessons learned from Muhammadiyah could be implemented when they returned to their respective regions.
“We have learned that we need to change in some ways, including how we manage programs in our country,” he added.
Ibrahim Asim acknowledged that he had learned a great deal from Muhammadiyah and requested Muhammadiyah assistance in synergizing efforts to formulate programs that would benefit the Maldivian people.
