MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir urged to impose more serious sanctions against Israel for its ongoing oppression of Palestinians.
There are a growing number of institutions and religious leaders worldwide who have spoken out in support of Palestinian independence and called for Israel to be held accountable for its actions. He argued that these voices showed the global outrage over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
“These calls for humanity are aimed at ending the systematic genocide in Gaza perpetrated by Israel. As long as the root causes of the conflict remain unaddressed, these voices cannot be silenced,” said Haedar at the Muhammadiyah office, Yogyakarta on Monday, November 18.
Haedar urged for a concrete solution to end the ongoing conflict in Palestine. He proposed a two-state solution, with both Palestine and Israel existing as independent and sovereign nations.
“As long as we don’t seek a solution, the conflict will persist,” said Haedar.
Haedar expressed his concern about the continued human suffering caused by the conflict, arguing that it is a stain on humanity. He pointed out that since the 1940s, nations around the world have committed to building a peaceful world free from oppression.
To prevent Israel from further aggression, Haedar called for severe sanctions and punishments.
“The international community, particularly the United Nations and the International Court of Justice, should impose sanctions to prevent such atrocities from happening again and to deter other countries from following Israeli actions,” said Haedar.
Regarding Indonesia’s stance, Haedar emphasized that the country, in accordance with its constitution, is firmly opposed to all forms of oppression. Indonesia, he added, should continue to rally support for Palestinian independence, seek a two-state solution, and impose sanctions on Israel for its actions.
