MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, PALESTINE — The humanitarian crisis in Palestine is worsening as Palestinians face the devastating realities of life in refugee camps. Ongoing Israeli attacks have exacerbated the suffering, leaving countless individuals struggling to secure their most basic needs, such as food, water, and shelter.
Lazismu, the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management, has been providing aid to Palestinians in need. In a previous effort, Lazismu, in partnership with other zakat institutions under the POROZ network, sent 12 container loads of food and hygiene kits to Palestine via Jordan in September 2024.
To further support Palestinian refugees, Lazismu, in collaboration with Gazze Destek Dernegi (GDD), recently distributed winter clothing in the Gaza Strip on November 13, 2024. This initiative aims to provide much-needed warmth and comfort to Palestinians as they face the harsh winter conditions.
The Program Manager of Lazismu Shofia Khoerunisa said, “Our collaboration with GDD has enabled us to distribute 281 sets of winter clothing for women and another 281 sets for children. Four humanitarian volunteers have been working tirelessly to distribute these items in refugee camps.”
The distribution took place in the western part of Gaza City, specifically in the Sheikh Ridwan. Shofia emphasized that Lazismu humanitarian mission in Palestine is ongoing.
“In addition to providing winter relief, we are also planning to establish emergency schools in refugee camps to ensure that children continue their education,” said Shofia.
Meanwhile, the Southeast Asia Partnership Manager of GDD M. Faqihus Syari expressed gratitude for Lazismu support.
“On behalf of GDD and the people of Gaza, I would like to express our sincere thanks for this invaluable assistance. We hope that this support will continue, especially for food, water, and shelter, which are urgently needed by our brothers and sisters in Gaza,” he said.
Faqihus Syari confirmed that the aid from Lazismu had been successfully distributed to refugees at the Abdurrahman Bin Aif School shelter in Sheikh Ridhwan, with the support of humanitarian volunteers.
