MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah and the United States (US) reaffirmed their commitment to continuing their long-standing and impactful collaboration.
The partnership, primarily facilitated through USAID, has been in place for over two decades, delivering significant benefits to society, particularly in education and healthcare.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir highlighted the success of these programs, which have improved the lives of many people.
Haedar emphasized the importance of cooperation in education, specifically encouraging more Muhammadiyah cadres to pursue higher studies in the US.
“This includes collaboration in science and technology, language, and the development of educational facilities,” he said, stressing the positive impact such initiatives have had on both sides.
In the health sector, Haedar called for the continuation of existing programs and emphasized the need to improve the welfare of healthcare volunteers, especially those working on tuberculosis (TB) initiatives.
“Volunteers should have better access to health insurance and other necessary support,” he stated.
Haeadar said that the US Ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdir praised Muhammadiyah contributions to education, healthcare, and religious progress in Indonesia.
“The Ambassador hoped Muhammadiyah would continue to play an important role as a moderate force that upholds principles of progress, both in Indonesia and globally,” Haedar shared after welcoming the official visit of the US Ambassador to Indonesia to the Muhammadiyah headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday, December 17.
This renewed commitment highlights Muhammadiyah role as a key partner in fostering education, health, and peace through international collaboration.
The two-hour meeting also touched on global political issues, with both Muhammadiyah and the US sharing a common vision for fostering peace at regional and global levels.
