MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah are addressing the growing challenges of climate change and environmental degradation through education. Their latest initiative, the Islamic Green School, aims to integrate Islamic values with sustainability practices in schools across the nation.
As part of the preparations for Tanwir National Meeting I ‘Aisyiyah, ‘Aisyiyah launched the Islamic Green School Guidebook: A Practical Handbook for Eco-Friendly Schools. This guidebook, developed by educational experts from the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board of West Java, was inspired by the success of the ‘Aisyiyah Boarding School Bandung’s eco-friendly school model. It received full support from the Aisyiyah Council for Early Childhood Education and Primary Education and the Aisyiyah Department of Environmental Preservation and Disaster Management.
Chairperson of Aisyiyah Masyitoh Chusnan emphasized the importance of this initiative, describing it as a timely and strategic response to environmental issues.
“We hope this guidebook helps teachers introduce environmental awareness in a way that matches the developmental stages of their students, making the lessons impactful and relevant,” she explained on Tuesday, January 7.
She also highlighted Aisyiyah commitment to intellectual contributions, stating, “This guidebook will serve as a lasting intellectual resource.”
The Islamic Green School initiative reflects Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah dedication to fostering environmental responsibility through education. By equipping future generations with knowledge and values centered on sustainability, the initiative aims to create a lasting positive impact on both society and the environment.
