MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah leaders welcomed Rwandan Ambassador to Indonesia Abdul Karim Harerimana on Wednesday, January 15, at the Muhammadiyah office, Jakarta. The visit aimed to discuss potential collaborations to improve education, healthcare, and human resources in Rwanda.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir expressed the movement’s openness to working with Rwanda. Haedar highlighted Muhammadiyah successful initiatives in education, health, and social welfare, stating, “We are open to partnerships, including with Rwanda, and we hope we can make this collaboration possible.”
Meanwhile, Ambassador Abdul Karim shared Rwanda’s journey of rebuilding after the devastating 1994 genocide, which claimed millions of lives in just 100 days. Despite the challenges, the ambassador emphasized Rwanda’s commitment to moving forward.
“Rwanda wants to leave its tragic past behind and focus on building a stable nation with good governance, security, and economic growth,” he said.
The ambassador acknowledged Muhammadiyah reputation as a leader in social and educational development, noting his prior collaboration with ‘Aisyiyah. He expressed hope that Muhammadiyah could help enhance Rwanda’s human resources by replicating its success in education and health.
Specifically, Abdul Karim proposed that Muhammadiyah establish educational institutions in Rwanda. He suggested starting with a preliminary assessment to identify opportunities and align the organization’s expertise with Rwanda’s needs.
“We hope Muhammadiyah can assist us in strengthening human resources. Sending a team to explore and map out potential areas of collaboration would be an excellent first step,” he explained.
