MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir highlighted the need for Indonesians to uphold three fundamental values to advance and preserve the nation’s heritage. He mentioned religion, culture, and Pancasila as essential pillars for the country’s progress.
“If these values are upheld in national life, I believe that Indonesia will stay on the right path and continue to develop,” said Haedar in the inauguration of two new areas of the Muhammadiyah Museum on Monday, February 3.
Haedar stressed that Indonesia has a rich historical and cultural legacy that becomes a vital strength for the nation.
“We should remain aware of our cultural and historical heritage,” said Haedar.
Haedar further explained that these three values should be integrated into cultural development, transforming them into a unique identity that shapes the nation’s progress.
“A great national leader should embody these values. Culture should evolve as a transformative value while staying rooted in its origins,” he added.
Haedar also highlighted the dynamic relationship between Islam and culture. He noted that Islam not only embraces culture but also contributes to its creation.
“Islam absorbs and shapes culture. Muslims may live simply, but they should not isolate themselves from the world. At the same time, worldly pleasures should not be pursued without meaning. That is what we must uphold together. Islam and culture are not at odds unless certain cultural elements contradict religious principles,” said Haedar.
