MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir emphasized that Islam promotes moderation and should be a source of joy in life.
“Islam teaches us not to go to extremes, so religion should bring happiness,” said Haedar in the media gathering at the Muhammadiyah headquarters, Yogyakarta on Tuesday, March 25.
Haedar explained that this joyful approach to religion should also be reflected in social and national life. He stressed the importance of balance, wisdom, and mutual deliberation in shaping a strong and prosperous future for Indonesia.
“This is crucial for building a strong nation. We can learn from our founding figures who played a key role in Indonesia’s independence struggle,” said Haedar.
Haedar also highlighted the fourth principle of Pancasila, which upholds democracy, wisdom, and collective decision-making. He questioned whether the country’s democratic system still aligns with these core values.
“The fourth principle of Pancasila carries three key values: democracy, wisdom, and deliberation. Are we still following these principles? How do we measure the success of our democracy?” he asked.
He emphasized the need for continuous evaluation and dialogue, as the nation’s future depends on its younger generations.
“The future of Indonesia will be shaped by its youth. That’s why evaluation and open discussions are crucial in preparing strong future leaders,” he said.
Haedar also stressed the importance of mutual trust and shared responsibility in maintaining national unity. He urged all elements of society to ensure that the principles of Pancasila are effectively implemented in governance and daily life.
“Through constant evaluation, dialogue, and mutual trust, Indonesia can continue to progress while upholding religious values, cultural heritage, and national unity,” said Haedar.
