Madrasah Mu’allimaat Yogyakarta: Nurturing Faithful, Knowledgeable, and Competitive Muslim Women Since the 20th Century

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA  – Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, an Islamic school for females, has earned praise from Muhammadiyah Chairperson of Publication, Information, and Digitalization Dadang Kahmad for its strong legacy and ongoing contribution to education.

Founded in the early 20th century, Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta remains a respected institution within Muhammadiyah and the wider Muslim community. It stands as an example of the vision of Muhammadiyah founders.

“This is a legacy from the 20th century that’s still active and thriving. It’s a remarkable achievement from our predecessors that has been well preserved,” said Dadang during a press statement on Monday, July 28.

Dadang expressed his admiration for the school’s continued relevance, especially noting its impressive intake of 1,200 new students this year. According to him, this number reflects not only popularity but also the high level of trust the public places in the quality of education at Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.

Dadang added that Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta has built a strong and positive reputation, particularly among the Muhammadiyah people, for producing well-educated and capable young women. The school’s mission is to equip Muslim women with a comprehensive education that combines deep religious knowledge with general studies, science, and technology.

This balanced approach helps prepare students to meet modern challenges while upholding Islamic values. Graduates of Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta are expected to become knowledgeable, confident, and competitive in various fields.

Looking to the future, Dadang hopes the school will continue to grow and expand its facilities.

“May Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta continue to thrive and someday have a beautiful and spacious area where it can expand its role,” said Dadang.

Dadang emphasized that having better facilities is essential to support the school’s mission and improve the overall learning environment.

Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta is not only a source of pride for Muhammadiyah but also an important contributor to the progress of national education, especially in developing future generations of Muslim women leaders.
