MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – It was almost two months since the 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck Cianjur Regency on Monday, 21 November 2022.
Based on the regent’s coordination meeting with the emergency deputy of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Cianjur earthquake emergency response phase ended on December 20, 2022. Now, the affected people are in the recovery phase.
Muhammadiyah volunteers were still engaging in the disaster relief 52 days after the disaster. The Muhammadiyah zakat management body (Lazismu) of West Java founded 500 emergency houses. On 23 December 2022, the housing construction reached 615 units in five locations.
According to the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC), per 27 December 2022, Muhammadiyah spent 6,660,333,575 rupiahs distributed to 86,552 beneficiaries.
“The Muhammadiyah disaster resilience through the MDMC, Aisyiyah, and all Muhammadiyah elements in Cianjur has been in line with the phases and coordination with the government. Besides, Muhammadiyah will remain involved in the recovery and take roles in post-disaster programs,” the President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir in Menteng on Wednesday (11/1).
Haedar wished the volunteerism would always become Muhammadiyah tradition and a long-term action.
“Thus, after the disaster, Muhammadiyah will always be there to be a da’wa strength and to elevate the dignity of Cianjur and West Javanese people. Muhammadiyah aid doesn’t stop in the disaster response,” mentioned Haedar.
Haedar thanked all Muhammadiyah volunteers who are working in the disaster area till now.
“For all Muhammadiyah volunteers in Cianjur, keep your health and teamwork. Indeed, keep working under one coordination system which has become Muhammadiyah work ethic. On the behalf of Muhammadiyah, thank you very much to all volunteers, the MDMC, Muhammadiyah autonomous organizations, boards, offices, and branches,” mentioned Haedar.
