MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Tragic news struck on Monday (May 20) with the passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. Raisi, along with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, reportedly perished when their helicopter crashed in the mountainous forest region of Dizmar, located between the cities of Varzagan and Jolfa in East Azerbaijan Province.
Muhammadiyah reached out to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Indonesia to express their heartfelt condolences. President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir and Secretary General of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti co-signed a message conveying their deepest sorrow over the passing of President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
“On behalf of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah and the Indonesian Muslim community, we share in the grief of the Iranian people and extend our heartfelt condolences to all the families of the victims, the nation, and the government of Iran,” said Mu’ti on Monday (May 20) in Jakarta.
According to Mu’ti, President Raisi has made significant contribution for our common goal in the pursuit of just peace in the region and the Muslim world, therefore his demise is indeed a great loss.
“May his legacy live on,” said Mu’ti.
Muhammadiyah is solemnly praying to Allah for forgiveness and blessing for all the victims of the incident, and to grant patience and solace for their families. Ameen.
