MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Chairperson of Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN), Commissioner General of Indonesia’s Police Department, Suyudi Ario Seto, along with his delegation, paid a courtesy visit to the Central Board of Muhammadiyah (PP Muhammadiyah) office in Jakarta on Wednesday (22/10). The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation between BNN and Muhammadiyah in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Indonesia.
“In this meeting, we discussed a very crucial issue concerning drug abuse in Indonesia. BNN and Muhammadiyah share the same spirit and commitment to support preventive efforts, including eradication, rehabilitation, and community empowerment,” said Suyudi.
According to him, the prevalence of drug abuse in Indonesia remains concerningly high, reaching nearly 3.3 million people. However, he expressed optimism that through cross-institutional collaboration and active involvement from community organizations, the number can be significantly reduced.
Suyudi also praised Muhammadiyah’s initiative inn forming the Anti-Narcotics Preacher Team (Team Dai Anti Narkotika), describing it as a concrete example of Muhammadiyah’s proactive role as a faith-based organization in tackling drug problems within society.
Menurut Suyudi, prevalensi penyalahgunaan narkotika di Indonesia saat ini masih begitu tinggi hampir di angka 3,3 juta jiwa. Namun Ia optimis melalui kerja sama lintas lembaga dan pihak masyarakat, diharapkan jumlahnya dapat menurun secara signifikan.
“Muhammadiyah has deployed its Anti-Narcotics Preacher Team, and I hope this can serve as an innovative and effective breakthrough on the ground to enlighten communities,” he added.
Furthermore, the BNN Chairperson expressed hope that Muhammadiyah’s initiative can become a role model for other social and religious organizations across Indonesia. He emphasized that the vision of a drug-free Indonesia cannot be achieved singlehandedly, but requires the participation of all elements of society. (Bintang Adrian)
