MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a reputable higher education analyst firm, has released its World University Rankings (WUR) 2025, showcasing the top universities across the globe. The rankings, published in London on Tuesday (June 4), encompass over 1,500 universities from 106 countries. Notably, two Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah Higher Education Institutions have secured a place in the prestigious QS WUR 2025 list: Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) and Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS).
Expressing his appreciation and pride over this achievement, Irwan Akib, the Chairperson of Muhammadiyah, acknowledged that this recognition is not a stroke of luck but rather the culmination of well-structured and measurable programs implemented by competent human resources and the dedicated efforts of all stakeholders within both institutions.
Furthermore, Irwan Akib highlighted that UMS has recently witnessed a surge in international student interest, attracting over 8,000 prospective students from various countries. UMY, too, has consistently drawn thousands of international students each year.
“These two accomplishments are undoubtedly linked to Muhammadiyah’s tagline of ‘excellence and progress’ and its internationalization programs,” Irwan Akib explained in an interview on Wednesday (June 12).
Irwan Akib also encouraged other PTMA institutions to continuously establish centers of excellence, provide exceptional services to all stakeholders, and differentiate themselves through their respective strengths.
It is worth noting that the assessment criteria for QS WUR 2025, the 21st edition of the rankings, encompass academic reputation, citations per faculty, employer reputation, employment outcomes, faculty-student ratio, international faculty, international research network, international students, and sustainability. A total of 26 Indonesian universities are included in the QS WUR 2025 list.
