MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Sheikh Muhammad Hussaini from Al-Azhar University praised the name “Muhammadiyah” chosen for the organization founded by Kiai Ahmad Dahlan in 1912. He highlighted the importance of the name, which is directly connected to Prophet Muhammad.
“The Prophet Muhammad was a special messenger with a universal mission to bring peace and compassion to all of creation,” said Sheikh Hussaini in the public lecture on ‘Religious Moderation in the Sharia Guidance in the Postmodern Era’ on Thursday, September 5.
He further noted that the choice of the name “Muhammadiyah” aligns with the Prophet Muhammad’s mission of liberating people from ignorance, oppression, and darkness.
Surah Ali Imran verse 110 is often referred to as “the verse of the Muhammadiyah people. According to Sheikh Hussaini, the people implement the verse.
“When all these characteristics are implemented in our lives, that is where our pride as members of Muhammadiyah lies,” said Sheikh Hussaini in the public lecture conducted by the Department of Islamic and Muhammadiyah Studies and Practice of Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta.
Sheikh Hussaini emphasized the importance of understanding the life and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad as a foundation for practicing moderate Islam. He pointed out that the Prophet Muhammad responded to hostility and opposition with moderation, compassion, and forgiveness, setting a powerful example for Muslims.
Before there were many theories about religious moderation, the Prophet Muhammad had already practiced it through his compassion, gentleness, and care.
