MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Rector of the Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia Jamhari Ma’ruf mentioned how Muslim-majority nations can cultivate strong and capable leadership, leading to global advancement.
A pivotal step toward national advancement, according to Jamhari, is the careful selection of leaders.
“To build a prosperous nation, one of the fundamental factors is knowing how to elect good leaders,” said Jauhari during the Muhammadiyah preaching on Friday, September 13.
A number of students identified four key indicators that can propel Muslim-majority countries forward: economic Islamicity, legal and governance, human and political rights, and international relations.
To achieve these indicators, Ma’ruf emphasized the critical importance of investing in education. He argued that a robust education system directly contributes to a higher quality of human capital.
Unfortunately, Ma’ruf noted that many Muslim-majority countries have neglected the development of science and technology education. Data presented by Ma’ruf revealed that only 39 universities from Muslim-majority countries made it into the top 500 global university rankings. This highlighted the need for significant improvements in Islamic educational institutions, particularly in developing competent and globally competitive human resources.
As the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia, Muhammadiyah plays a crucial role in nurturing exceptional human capital, especially in a country with the world’s largest Muslim population.
Ma’ruf expressed optimism that Muhammadiyah, with its extensive network of educational institutions, can contribute to enhancing Indonesian human capital through its various programs.
“With quality education, we can develop a superior workforce that will produce competent Muslim leaders who can uplift Muslim-majority countries, particularly our beloved Indonesia,” said Ma’ruf.
