MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – As Indonesia grapples with the impacts of the rainy season and subsequent flooding in various regions, Muhammadiyah through its Department of Charity Management arm (Lazismu) provided immediate relief to affected communities.
In Sukabumi, one of the hardest-hit areas, Muhammadiyah volunteers have established emergency coordination and service centers to provide essential aid and healthcare. The flooding has displaced numerous residents and created a heightened risk of the spread of disease.
“The floods and landslides in Sukabumi have increased the risk of disease transmission. As part of the emergency response, we are prioritizing the health and well-being of affected communities,” said M. Abdul Aziz, the coordinator of a service center in Sagaranten.
Lazismu has played an essential role in supporting these relief efforts by providing ready-to-eat meals, basic necessities, and other essential supplies to the affected communities. Lazismu has also been working closely with local authorities and other humanitarian organizations to ensure that aid is distributed efficiently and effectively.
In Medan, North Sumatra, Muhammadiyah and its women’s wing, Aisyiyah, distributed relief packages to flood victims. These packages include food, clothing, and other essential items.
“This is part of our social responsibility to be present for those in need. We are committed to collaborating with various parties to carry out our humanitarian mission,” said Syahrul Amsari, the Chairperson of Lazismu of North Sumatra
The floods in Medan, Binjai, and Deli Serdang have displaced hundreds of residents, prompting a coordinated response from various sectors of society, including religious organizations like Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah. Relief teams have been working tirelessly to provide assistance to those affected, while medical teams have been deployed to ensure the health and well-being of the victims.
