MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Hundreds of flood survivors in Rawajati and Pejaten Timur, South Jakarta, received food assistance through Lazismu’s “Tebar Takjil” program on Tuesday, March 5. The initiative aimed to support those affected by the flooding since March 2, particularly residents living along the Ciliwung River.
Severe flooding in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) has impacted 300 households, disrupting daily life due to heavy rainfall and deforestation in upstream areas.
Rizky Saragih, a representative of the Muhammadiyah Department for Charity Management (Lazismu), shared that his team distributed 400 food packages, including iftar meals to help flood survivors break their fast during Ramadan.
“We are fulfilling the trust of our donors by sharing kindness with flood survivors in the Greater Jakarta area, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. This initiative ensures they have access to proper meals for iftar,” said Rizky.
Rizky emphasized Lazismu’s ongoing commitment to disaster relief across Indonesia. Recently, the organization has supported survivors of the Kemayoran fire, survivors of Mt Lewotobi eruption, and other communities affected by natural disasters.
“Beyond providing immediate relief, our goal is to help disaster survivors regain stability and resume their daily activities as soon as possible,” added Rizky.
One of the beneficiaries, Hatiyanto, expressed deep gratitude for the assistance.
“Thank you to Lazismu and all the donors who have helped ease our burden during this difficult time,” said Rizky.
Another evacuee, Endang, shared how challenging it has been for residents to observe Ramadan due to the flooding.
“Alhamdulillah, Lazismu arrived at the right time, making it easier for us to break our fast. May this bring blessings to everyone involved,” said Endang.
