MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar introduced the Curriculum of Love during his visit to the Muhammadiyah Office of Jakarta on Tuesday, March 11. The initiative focuses on teaching religion with compassion and unity.
“We want religious teachers to emphasize love, not hatred. They should teach students to see each other as fellow human beings, as citizens of the same nation, and as people who share a history of struggle during colonial times,” said Nasaruddin.
He explained that the Curriculum of Love would be gradually implemented through educational reforms.
“Materials of religious studies, including textbooks and syllabi, will be reviewed to eliminate narratives that promote intolerance. The goal is to strengthen national unity through religious education,” said Nasaruddin.
Nasaruddin also highlighted the need for collaboration in building a strong and harmonious society. He encouraged Muhammadiyah to continue its efforts in fostering unity and preventing division.
“In the future, we have to work together to strengthen our communities and ensure Indonesia grows into a strong, competitive nation. Muhammadiyah plays a key role in promoting harmony and national unity,” he stated.
The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining open communication with various organizations to shape well-rounded and inclusive policies. He also sought Muhammadiyah input on the future of religious education, encouraging the organization to share strategic insights to help the Ministry stay relevant in shaping moral and religious values in schools.
