MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Zuhair Al Shun called on Indonesia to continue spreading the message of peace worldwide. Speaking at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Wednesday, March 12, he expressed deep gratitude for Indonesia’s strong and consistent support for Palestine.
“We greatly appreciate Indonesia’s unwavering support, standing with us through both joy and hardship,” said Zuhair Al Shun.
Palestine remains in a critical situation as Israeli forces continue to occupy territories and carry out acts of violence. Zuhair Al Shun described how imperialism has fragmented Palestine, stripping it of its unity.
He also highlighted Palestine’s vast oil and gas resources, which make it strategically significant in the Middle East, influencing both Asia and Europe. He believes these resources are a key reason behind Israel’s ongoing occupation, which has resulted in countless civilian casualties.
Zuhair Al Shun stressed that Islam, as a religion of justice, must take an active role in defending peace. He emphasized that discussions on peace should not remain theoretical but must be translated into real action.
“In today’s world, we face enormous challenges that demand global cooperation. The issue of Palestine is not just a national concern. It is a global humanitarian issue,” said Zuhair Al Shun.
“Islam teaches us to stand with the oppressed and to unite in the fight against colonialism,” he added.
