MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir highlighted the important role of the Muhammadiyah Special Branches (PCIM) as ambassadors of the organization in different countries. He stressed that PCIM not only represents Muhammadiyah internationally but also carries its values and principles in religious life, nation-building, and universal humanitarian efforts.
“PCIM carries a heavier responsibility because they have to navigate global dynamics, not only between governments but also among various groups and societies within each country,” said Haedar during the International Forum of Ideology, Politics, and Organization conducted on Saturday at the Muhammadiyah Digital Broadcast Center, Yogyakarta.
Haedar encouraged PCIM members to uphold Muhammadiyah’s moderate approach and to always be aware of the local situations they live in.
“There are many opportunities and paths we can take. Every country has different policies and conditions, so it’s important that we remain moderate in our approach. Muhammadiyah has a lot of potential to grow, and I believe one day it will continue expanding across nations because what we do can truly inspire change,” said Haedar Nashir.
Haedar also emphasized the need for PCIM to refer to the framework of Progressive Islam as a foundation for its mission.
“Muhammadiyah’s Islamic worldview is already clearly defined in its official teachings, which combine three main approaches: bayani (textual understanding), burhani (rational thinking), and irfani (spiritual insight),” said Haedar.
Furthermore, Haedar hoped that Muhammadiyah’s organizational system would continue to become more advanced, modern, and professional. He also pointed out the important role of Muhammadiyah institutions in spreading the movement’s impact globally.
“Our organization should keep improving, becoming more modern and professional. Muhammadiyah institutions are one of Muhammadiyah’s biggest strengths in educating and empowering people,” said Haedar.
