MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MAKASSAR – Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar is named in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, making it the only private university in Eastern Indonesia to earn this international recognition. The ranking highlights the university’s strong efforts in supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
THE Impact Rankings focus on how universities contribute to society through social, economic, and environmental initiatives, rather than just academic performance.
Rector of Unismuh Makassar, Abdul Rakhim Nanda, praised the dedication of the entire academic community and especially acknowledged the university’s ranking team for their hard work.
“Without collaboration across departments and full commitment, we would not have achieved this. This is an important milestone that we should continue to build on to encourage innovation and improve the quality of education,” said Rakhim in a press release on Thursday, June 19.
This recognition shows Unismuh’s consistent role in creating social impact, not only in the local and national context but also on a global level.
The university was assessed based on 17 indicators outlined by the SDGs. Unismuh stood out in three key areas.
In the Zero Hunger category, Unismuh ranked between 401–600 out of 955 institutions, with a score of 45.0. This ranking reflects the university’s support for food security, assistance to students facing hunger, and its contribution through graduates in agriculture.
For Quality Education, Unismuh also placed between 401–600 out of 1,975 institutions, scoring 57.1. Its strengths in this area include promoting lifelong learning and continuously improving the quality of teaching.
In the Decent Work and Economic Growth category, Unismuh earned a score of 49.1, ranking between 601–800 out of 1,350 institutions. The university was recognized for providing safe employment contracts and promoting healthy work practices for its staff.
