MUHAMMADIYAH. OR. ID, JAKARTA – The Secretary General of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti strongly criticized the House of Representatives for disregarding the Constitutional Court rulings on regional head candidate requirements and nomination thresholds.
“As a legislative body, the House of Representative should uphold the law,” said Mu’ti.
Mu’ti further highlighted the House’s role as a representative of the people. He urged the lawmakers to prioritize the interests of the nation and people over narrow political gains.
“The House should not undermine the authority of the Constitutional Court,” said Mu’ti.
According to Mu’ti, the House’s decision to discuss the 2024 Regional Head Election Bill, despite the existing Constitutional Court rulings, is inappropriate.
“The House’s move could lead to significant problems in the 2024 regional elections and spark public backlash,” said Mu’ti.
Mu’ti urged the House and the government to be responsive to the concerns of the public, including academics, students, and civil society organizations who attend the protest rally.
“A wise and prudent approach is necessary to prevent further escalation of tensions and ensure the stability of the nation,” said Mu’ti.
