Ahmad Dahlan’s Vision of Advancement Lives on in Muhammadiyah Efforts

MUHAMMADIYAH, OR.ID, BANDAR LAMPUNG – The founder of Muhammadiyah, Ahmad Dahlan, encouraged Muhammadiyah scholars to be the progressive ones.

“All Muhammadiyah members, no matter the positions, either rectors, vice-rectors, deans, lecturers, or staff, should have progressive thoughts,” said the Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development Adam Jerusalem at Universitas Muhammadiyah Lampung on Wednesday, December 11.

Adam Jerusalem encouraged all members of UML and the Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah educational institutions to work tirelessly to advance the movement.

He highlighted the deep significance of Dahlan’s message about progressive scholarship, stating that it has profound implications for both past and present Muhammadiyah members.

Adam Jerusalem told about Ahmad Dahlan’s tireless efforts to uplift his community and nation. Despite his deteriorating health, Ahmad Dahlan persisted in his mission, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to progress.

Ahmad Dahlan passed away at the young age of 54 in 1923. Born in 1868, his legacy continues to influence Muhammadiyah today. He was buried at the Karangkajen Cemetery in Kotagede, Yogyakarta.

To further advance Muhammadiyah universities, Adam Jerusalem emphasized the need for strong collaboration between academic staff, boards of trustees, Muhammadiyah members, and local Muhammadiyah leaders.
