MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURABAYA – Rahmad Adi Mulyono, a student of the Management Program at Univesitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya (UM Surabaya), won a gold medal in the speed competition of the IFSC Sport Climbing World Cup in Chamonix, France, on Saturday (July 18).
Adi, the eighth-semester student known as the “Spiderman of East Java,” went to the final after defeating Raharjati Nursamsa in the semifinal. In the semifinal, Adi recorded a time of 4.97 seconds, narrowly surpassing Nursamsa’s time of 4.98 seconds. Nursamsa secured the bronze medal in this world cup.
In the final round, Rahmad Adi Mulyono beat Rishat Khaibullin from Kazakhstan. Adi emerged as the best, earning the gold medal with a time of 5.01 seconds, while Khaibullin recorded a time of 5.05 seconds.
“I am grateful and excited because this is my first gold medal in the World Cup,” said Adi in the press release from UM Surabaya on July 14.
His team and Adi had trained, endeavored, and made preparations for every competition, and the fruitful outcome has achieved that he won the world cup.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to my family, coach, the Indonesian team, UM Surabaya, and the entire Indonesian people for their support. Wish me luck as always,” said Adi, an awardee of the Athlete Scholarships at UM Surabaya.
Adi expressed his strong desire to continue his journey and achieve more medals in future world championships.
As a senior at UM Surabaya, he also hoped to successfully accomplish his study despite his busy schedule.
Meanwhile, Sukadiono, the Rector of UM Surabaya, congratulated Adi for winning the world cup title.
”The IFSC Sport Climbing World Cup is a prestigious event, bringing pride to not only the university but also the entire Indonesian nation,” said Sukadiono.
Sukodiono also mentioned that the university will continue supporting UM Surabaya athletes in national and international competitions. He hoped that this achievement would inspire other athletes.
