MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Marking their second century, Aisyiyah is doubling down on their historic role in shaping Indonesia’s future through a clarion call for active participation in national development planning.
This resounding pledge echoed through a recent Aisyiyah Central Leadership Council (PP) coordination meeting held on January 20th, gathering representatives from all 34 regional councils.
“Aisyiyah has a long history of contributing to national development,” said President of Aisyiyah Salmah Orbayinah in a coordination meeting on Saturday, January 20. “Aisyiyah women have always been architects of positive change in education, healthcare, and social welfare. Now, as we step into our second century, it’s time to ensure our voices continue to resonate in shaping Indonesia’s destiny.”
Orbayinah rallied members to elevate their presence in public policy forums, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring government policies cater to the needs of the people. Her message resonated with General Secretary of Aisyiyah Tri Hastuti Nur Rochimah, who further underscored the organization’s unwavering commitment to national development.
Aisyiyah commitment is enshrined in key charters, including the Ujung Pandang Charter (Kittah) of 1971, the Surabaya Charter of 1978, and the Denpasar Charter of 2002.
“Our dedication to progress is woven into the very fabric of our foundation,” Rochimah said, citing key Aisyiyah principles enshrined in the Denpasar Charter. “Through ‘amar ma’ruf nahi munkar,’ we must strive to influence state processes and policies, ensuring they uphold our constitution and the noble ideals that bind us as a nation.”
Rochimah’s call to action extended beyond national planning, urging Aisyiyah members to champion inclusive local development initiatives. “Understanding the unique needs of each region, embracing the ‘no one left behind’ principle, and ensuring inclusivity are fundamental to achieving this,” she emphasized.
Aisyiyah’s renewed focus on active development participation comes at a pivotal moment for Indonesia. With daunting challenges like poverty, inequality, and climate change on the horizon, the organization’s dedication to collective progress and inclusivity offers a beacon of hope. By leveraging their unwavering spirit and expertise, Aisyiyah women have the potential to play a pivotal role in building a brighter, more just future for all Indonesians.
