MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALUKU – During his visit to Muhammadiyah University of Maluku (UM Maluku), the Indonesian Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, as well as General Secretary of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, Abdul Mu’ti, emphasized the importance of cultivating a clean and productive organizational culture across Muhammadiyah universities.
The visit took place on Friday (24/10), was warmly received by UM Maluku Rector Faris al Fadhat, Vice Rector Andi Thamrin, and Chair of the Muhammadiyah Maluku Provincial Board (PWM Maluku), Muh. Thaib Hansouw.
Abdul Mu’ti underscored that a clean and productive culture is essential for all Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Universities (PTMA). In managing these institutions, he advised avoiding the “3K” (conflict, corruption, and competition for power).
“Let’s strengthen our unity, avoid conflicts, and abandon counterproductive attitudes so that we can stand as a solid and cohesive community,” he said.
He also reminded the audience that Muhammadiyah was born as a tajdid (reform) movement. Therefore, he stressed the need to eliminate outdated, rigid, shortsighted, and stagnant attitudes that hinder progress in higher education institutions.
“Avoid corruption and the absence of vision. Muhammadiyah is a progressive movement, one that always brings renewal,” he emphasized.
As one of the Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah universities operating within a minority context, Mu’ti highlighted the importance of adopting both militant and inclusive strategies to strengthen UM Maluku’s presence and growth.
“Focus on common ground–don’t dwell too much on differences,” he advised.
His message was warmly received by lecturers and staff in attendance, who saw it as motivation to continue fostering innovation in higher education across Maluku, particularly through curriculum development that aligns with the region’s unique character and potential in maritime affairs, tourism, and island-based resources.
Beyond a visit of courtesy, the Minister’s presence also served as a powerful encouragement for UM Maluku to face the future with a spirit of empowerment, excellence in governance, and integrity.
The affirmation of values such as integrity, transparency, and renewal will be crucial foundations for UM Maluku’s progress moving forward.
With continued synergy and support from the Muhammadiyah movement, the university is expected to grow into a center for nurturing future national leaders, individuals who think globally while rooted firmly in Islamic and Indonesian identity. (Bintang Adrian)
