MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, BANGKA BELITUNG – Syafiq Mughni, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah, delivered a compelling address underscoring the movement’s unwavering dedication to twin pillars: transformative education and global humanitarian action.
Mughni resonated with J. William Fulbright’s profound observation: “Education is slow-moving but a powerful force.” Echoing this sentiment, he emphasized the pivotal role education plays in driving societal progress.
“Education serves as the bedrock for a brighter future. While its impact unfolds gradually, its transformative power shapes entire societies for generations to come,” said Mughni at the graduation ceremony of Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung on Sarturday (December 23).
He expressed his ardent hope for Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung’s continued ascent, envisioning it as a beacon of academic excellence not only within Bangka Belitung but also on the national landscape. Mughni further reaffirmed Muhammadiyah’s unwavering commitment to providing inclusive, high-caliber education, transcending barriers of religion, ethnicity, and cultural background.
“Muhammadiyah universities in eastern Indonesia often boast a majority of non-Muslim students. These institutions exemplify our commitment to inclusivity, fostering an environment where all students receive the same exceptional educational opportunities, regardless of their background,” said Mughni.
Beyond education, Mughni highlighted Muhammadiyah’s exemplary record in global humanitarian action. With established branches in over 30 countries, the movement consistently extends a helping hand to those in need across the globe.
“Muhammadiyah’s expertise in promoting peace and fostering interfaith understanding is recognized and sought after internationally. We actively share our experience and insights to contribute to the creation of a more harmonious global community,” said Mughni.
Mughni mentioned recent humanitarian efforts in Palestine, including the construction of mosques and schools within refugee camps, the provision of housing, and the establishment of scholarship programs for Palestinian students to pursue higher education both in Palestine and at Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah universities in Indonesia.
Mughni’s address served as a powerful testament to Muhammadiyah’s unwavering commitment to both educational advancement and global humanitarianism. These fundamental pillars remain central to the movement’s mission of building a more just and equitable world for all.
