MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Vice Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, Research, and Development Achmad Jainuri gave a public lecture on Islam and Muhammadiyah Teaching (AIK) on Tuesday, October 8.
In the lecture virtually attended by new Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah students across Indonesia, Jainuri emphasized the crucial connection between knowledge and action. Quoting Muhammadiyah founder Ahmad Dahlan, he stated, “Islam is not merely found in the Quran and Hadith, but ultimately, Islam is manifested in everyday life.” This assertion highlights the importance of applying Islamic teachings to practical actions for the betterment of humanity.
Furthermore, Jainuri explained that Islam, in its literal meaning, signifies submission or surrender. It is a religion that teaches obedience to Allah, as evident in the laws of nature. All living beings, he argued, are Muslim in the sense that they submit to the will of Allah.
However, for Muhammadiyah, Islam is specifically defined by the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, including the five pillars of Islam. Jainuri also emphasized that Islam is not merely a set of rituals but a comprehensive way of life that applies to all aspects of human existence. It is universal and transcends boundaries of race, ethnicity, and nationality.
With this inspiring message, the new students of Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah universities are encouraged to embody the comprehensive values of Islam and become agents of positive change in their communities and the world.
Jainuri extended a warm welcome to the new students and expressed high hopes for their contributions to society.
“To all new Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah students, welcome to the campus of enlightenment. May what you learn in your respective campuses bring benefits to yourselves, your nation, and your religion,” said Jainuri.
