MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, KUPANG – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir highlighted the crucial role of cultural strategy in achieving national prosperity. He expressed concern over the lack of a comprehensive national cultural strategy.
Haedar argued that Indonesia’s cultural landscape is undergoing significant transformation due to the strong influence of foreign cultures. The absence of a national cultural strategy has left Indonesia feeling alien in its own home.
Haedar emphasized the importance of cultural development alongside democratic progress, economic growth, and legal development.
“Muhammadiyah is committed to bringing about prosperity, which is a part of a progressive civilization as envisioned by our founding fathers,” stated Haedar.
Connecting the concept of “hadlarah” (civilization) with cultural advancement, Haedar explained that a progressive culture can become a foundation for harnessing Indonesia’s full potential. Referring to the Indonesian Constitution, he noted that a prosperous Indonesia is indivisible from Indonesia which is independent, united, sovereign, and just.
Muhammadiyah, Haedar continued, is determined to intensify its efforts to promote prosperity through its various programs and initiatives. The movement aims to expand its reach to all corners of the nation, including remote and underserved areas.
Haedar stressed the interconnectedness of faith, morality, knowledge, and good deeds in achieving national prosperity. He warned that the increasing influence of social media has led to a decline in cultural values and a rise in individualism.
“Indonesia is facing crucial cultural challenges that threaten our national unity. These issues are closely tied to our character, social behavior, values, and so on,” said Haedar.
Haedar expressed concern about the erosion of nationalism, the dominance of global culture, and the decline of traditional values like collectivism and cooperation. He emphasized the importance for Muhammadiyah members to understand the evolving cultural landscape and remain steadfast in their Islamic principles, namely liberating, empowering, and advancing life.
