MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, DENPASAR – Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Irwan Akib mentioned that, in its early establishment, Muhammadiyah focused on education and healthcare.
Those are visionary goals. K.H. Hisyam wanted to establish a grand university, while K.H. Sudja’ envisioned a magnificent hospital.
“Now, we are working to strengthen the two visions by creating a synergy between Muhammadiyah medical faculties and hospitals,” said Irwan Akib at the forum of the development of faculties of medicine and dentistry in Denpasar, on Thursday, October 17.
Irwan Akib noted that Muhammadiyah universities currently have 17 faculties of medicine and five faculties of dentistry. However, Akib stressed the importance of maintaining high quality standards.
He also highlighted the need for closer collaboration between educational institutions and healthcare providers. “This synergy should not only be limited to medicine but also extend to nursing, midwifery, and other healthcare professions,” he added.
Irwan Akib concluded by expressing his hope for a future where Muhammadiyah educational institutions and healthcare facilities are seamlessly integrated.
“We want our medical graduates to be not only skilled practitioners but also individuals who embody the values of Islam. Integrating Islamic and Muhammadiyah teachings into our medical education allows us to produce doctors who are committed to serving the community and promoting health and well-being,” said Irwan Akib.
