MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, HULU SUNGAI UTARA – Former President of Muhammadiyah (2005–2010 and 2010-2015) Din Syamsuddin made his first visit to Alabio, Hulu Sungai Utara. It was the place where Muhammadiyah first established its presence in Kalimantan in 1925, introduced by Javanese migrants.
Speaking at MBS Nurul Amin Alabio, Din highlighted Muhammadiyah contributions in Kalimantan. He described its arrival demonstrated the movement’s commitment to advancing religion, nationhood, and humanity. According to Din, this multifaceted mission reflects Muhammadiyah’s unique approach to serving the community.
Din emphasized that Muhammadiyah, like any Islamic organization, should not be seen as an ultimate goal but as a means to achieve a greater purpose, namely seeking Allah’s blessing. He cautioned against using organizations as platforms for division or conflict, instead urging members to view them as tools for spreading Islamic teachings and fostering unity.
“These organizations are instruments for our struggle, tools for da’wa and jihad, to uphold Islam as a faith we hold in the highest regard,” he explained on Monday (January 6).
Din encouraged Muhammadiyah members to embrace a strong sense of belonging to the organization. He stressed that this sense should not merely be symbolic but should reflect a deeper understanding of Muhammadiyah vision, mission, and goals.
Reaffirming Muhammadiyah primary mission to promote and uphold Islam to be true Muslims, Din called it a noble goal. He described the organization as a vital platform for achieving meaningful change and progress.
Din also advocated for inclusivity, urging Muhammadiyah members to adopt an open and cooperative mindset. He reminded them to avoid being self-centered or exclusive, emphasizing the importance of engaging with others, including those from different religious backgrounds.
