MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Irwan Akib emphasized the need for high-quality human resources to realize Indonesia’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2045 (Indonesia Emas/Golden Indonesia 2045).
“To achieve Indonesia Emas 2045, we need an excellent and progressive education system that produces graduates who are strong in faith, intellectually superior, morally upright, and ready to contribute to society. Education should provide a holistic and comprehensive development for students,” said Irwan Akib in the forum organized by the Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah University Rector Association at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) on Wednesday, October 2.
Irwan highlighted Muhammadiyah significant role in preparing skilled and progressive human resources through its schools and universities. He also noted that Indonesian presidents throughout history have consistently prioritized the development of human capital.
Expressing optimism about the incoming administration under President Prabowo Subianto, Irwan said, “As the former Defense Minister, Prabowo has shown a deep commitment to human resource development through the Universitas Pertahanan (UNHAN), even providing scholarships for students to become doctors at the Faculty of Medicine of UNHAN. We hope that, after his inauguration, he will pay even greater attention to national education and not only focus on the UNHAN but also on other higher education institutions, especially Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah higher education institutions, which have been selflessly and sincerely educating Indonesian citizens with unquestionable quality.”
Referring to Sukarno’s famous quote about independence being a golden bridge, Irwan emphasized the responsibility of the nation’s elite to take this opportunity wisely.
“The golden bridge of independence should lead us to a united, sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia. Our leaders should be selfless statesmen who utilize this golden bridge to achieve our nation’s aspirations and prevent it from collapsing due to our own mistakes,” said Irwan.
