MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA—The 48th Muktamar (Congress) of Muhammadiyah produced a decision on ‘Risalah Islam Berkemajuan‘ (The Treatise of Progressive Islam). According to the Chairman of Muhammadiyah Syamsul Anwar, the notion of ‘berkemajuan‘ (progressive) is not a passive adjective but a guiding principle of the movement.
“Islam Berkemajuan (Progressive Islam) embodies our pursuit of a progressive future, guided by Islamic principles and teachings. Thus, welcoming the Islamic new year 1445 Hijri, the Progressive Islam can become the spirit of Muslims,” said Syamsul at the Muhammadiyah preaching on Friday (July 14).
Islamic civilization, spanning 1444 years and 13 years of Prophet Muhammad’s mission in Mecca, has historically shaped the world. Yet, in the present era, Islam faces the challenge of creating positive impacts on society and the environment. Embracing a dynamic understanding of Islam that adapts to changing times is crucial.
The migration of Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina is a significant event in Islamic history, symbolizing a dynamic movement and the necessity of a progressive approach to Islam that aligns with the changing world.
A Treatise of Progressive Islam of Muhammadiyah provides a cornerstone for Muslims in addressing the challenges of the modern era. It seeks to motivate Muslims to cultivate a progressive lifestyle anchored in Islamic values, emphasizing the welfare of humanity and the preservation of the environment.
