MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, KAIRO – The Emergency Medical Team (EMT) of Muhammadiyah and LazisMu (the Muhammadiyah Department for Zakat, Infaq, and Sadaqah Management) have established a new humanitarian cooperation with Palestine. The collaboration was marked by the handover of medical equipment to the Palestine Hospital in Cairo, Egypt, on Tuesday, January 30.
This partnership is the culmination of several rounds of communication between Muhammadiyah and the Palestine Hospital and Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS). In his remarks, PRCS Secretary-General Tarek Arafat expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Muhammadiyah unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
“The arrival of Muhammadiyah representatives directly to the Palestine Hospital demonstrates their seriousness and strong commitment to supporting the Palestinian struggle,” he said.
Muhammadiyah representatives, led by LazisMu Secretary, presented essential medical equipment, including two life-saving Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) and a Diathermy device to combat the harsh winter conditions. Dr. Mohammad Ramadhan, Director of the Palestine Hospital, received the equipment with gratitude.
The collaboration extends beyond a one-time donation. A one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed, solidifying a long-term commitment to sustained support. Naibul Umam, coordinator of the Muhammadiyah team, highlighted the significance of this agreement: “This partnership streamlines the delivery of urgently needed medical supplies to those impacted by the Gaza crisis.”
Umam also hinted at broader support beyond equipment, emphasizing ongoing discussions with the hospital and PRCS.
“We’re exploring various avenues to offer additional assistance to patients and families affected by the crisis,” he said. “We’ll navigate all channels, formal and informal, while adhering to local regulations and Muhammadiyah.”
This collaboration marks a crucial step in alleviating the plight of Palestinians facing hardship. Muhammadiyah’s commitment to providing tangible aid, coupled with their willingness to explore diverse avenues of support, offers a beacon of hope for a community in need.
