Exploring Quranic Teachings for Human Development: Muhammadiyah Participates in Mecca Conference

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MECCA – Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Religious Preaching Fathurrahman Kamal attended the International Conference on Quranic Guidance for Human Development (Hidayatu al-Quran fi Bina’ al-Insan), held in Mecca on September 3-4, 2024. The conference, organized by Markaz Makkah al-‘Alamiy li al-Huda al-Qur’aniy, brought together scholars, academics, and Quranic experts from around the world to discuss the relevance of the Quran in contemporary life.

Fathurrahman was accompanied by Saiful Bahri, a member of the Global Religious Preaching and International Cooperation Board and the head of the Doctoral Program in Islamic Education Management at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta.

The conference aimed to provide an academic platform for discussing the role of the Quran in human development. It explored how the Quranic teachings can be applied to contemporary challenges and how to mainstream Islamic values in society.

“The conference also discussed the mainstreaming of noble human values through Quranic guidance and emphasized the study of the Quran, especially in exploring and mainstreaming Quranic guidance that is rich in perspectives and topics relevant to contemporary life,” said Faturrahan in a press release on Friday, September 6.

The first plenary session had four speakers. Prof. Dr. Thaha Abidin from the International University of Africa (IUA), Sudan presented a comprehensive analysis of human beings and Quranic guidance from various perspectives. Dr. Thalal Muhammad Sulaiman Abu Al-Nour from Ummul Qura University in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and Prof. Dr. Nabil Muhammad Al-Jauhariy from Al-Azhar University, Egypt discussed the civilizations of the Two Holy Sanctuaries (Haramain al-Sharifain) from the perspective of Quranic teachings. Prof. Dr. Enver Gicic, a professor of Islamic Studies at Novi Pazar College in Serbia explored the Quranic guidance on moral excellence and the development of human values.

Besides, Faturrahman Kamal and his entourage visited the Foundation of Al-Burhan li Khidmati as-Sunnah wa al-Quran to discuss a roadmap for teaching and internalizing Quranic values, particularly among the millennial, Gen Z, and Alpha generations.
