MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, BANTUL – President of ‘Aisyiyah Salmah Orbayinah emphasized the important role that graduates of Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta will play as future progressive female scholars.
“Female scholars are still urgently needed to support Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah mission in broader society,” said Salmah Orbayinah in the graduation ceremony at the Sportorium of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Saturday, May 31.
As a Mu’allimaat alumna herself, Salmah shared several important reminders with the graduates. First, she urged them to hold on to the values and character they developed during their time at the school.
“Always remember the lessons and values taught by your teachers, especially noble character and strong moral integrity, as you move forward in life,” said Salmah.
Salmah also emphasized the importance of balancing religious and general knowledge. According to Salmah, both are essential for anyone who hopes to become a respected female scholar.
“These two areas of knowledge will equip you with what you need. A key skill for any female Islamic scholar is the ability to master both,” explained Salmah.
Salmah encouraged the graduates to put the positive values they gained at the Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta into practice and to stay engaged with the community. She stressed that scholars should not only be knowledgeable but also approachable and aware of the real issues people face.
“You should be close to the community. Learn to observe and think critically about what challenges people are facing today,” said Salmah.
Salmah believed that the Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta had prepared the students well, and encouraged them to become part of the solution in society.
“Don’t be part of the problem. Be someone who offers answers,” she said firmly.
In closing, Salmah shared her hopes that the graduates will pursue their dreams with confidence and aim high in whatever paths they choose.
