MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SUKABUMI – President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir emphasized the organization’s core values of self-sufficiency and collaboration.
“Muhammadiyah is an independent organization. We are self-reliant and strive to achieve our goals without relying on others. However, this independence does not translate to isolation. We believe that collaboration is essential, and working together is a shared responsibility,” said Haedar at the meeting of the 21 anniversary commemoration of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sukabmi (UMMI) on Thursday (June 13).
This commitment to self-reliance has fueled Muhammadiyah remarkable achievements in education. Founded in 1912 by Ahmad Dahlan, the organization has established educational institutions around the world. These include a university in Malaysia, a school in Australia, a kindergarten in Egypt.
“These institutions show Muhammadiyah dedication to promoting Islam as a religion with a high level of civilization,” said Haedar.
Haedar Nashir then addressed Muhammadiyah members, widely recognized for their organization’s exceptional contributions in the field of education. He urged them to actively promote a culture of knowledge that extends far beyond the walls of educational institutions. This culture of lifelong learning should permeate society as a whole.
“Let us never engage in thought, speech, or action without the foundation of knowledge. Knowledge should guide all our endeavors,” advised Nashir, a professor of sociology at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta.
Haedar expressed his hope that nurturing a culture of knowledge will pave the way for the emergence of a society empowered by knowledge. This knowledge-based society is essential for propelling Indonesia’s human development index forward. Despite achieving independence 78 years ago, Indonesia’s human development index remains relatively low.
