Inclusive Ramadan 2025: A Step toward Accessibility and Empowerment for People with Disabilities

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Muhammadiyah Council for Social Welfare Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Muhammadiyah Disability Association (HIDIMU), conducted “Ramadan Inklusi 2025” (Inclusive Ramadan 2025) under the theme “Devout and Empowered, Indonesia is Friendly to People with Disabilities”

This initiative aims to advocate for greater inclusivity and accessibility for people with disabilities. It focuses on social welfare, economic empowerment, and accessible public transportation. Lazismu, the Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management, also supports the initiative.

This year’s program included discussions on inclusive education policies, an iftar gathering with 1,000 participants, and a special Mudik Ramah Difabel (Accessible Homecoming) program. There was also the distribution of 1,000 food aid packages, 500 zakat fitrah donations, and 150 assistance packages for Mudik Ramah Difabel, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable homecoming experience for people with disabilities.

The Council Chairperson and Advisor to the Minister of Education on Talent and Management Development, Mariman Darto, emphasized the importance of ensuring education for all children, especially those with disabilities.

“Inclusive education is designed for students who face challenges in traditional learning due to physical, emotional, or cognitive differences. It ensures that every child, regardless of their abilities, has access to quality education,” said Mariman in the iftar gathering at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) on Sunday, March 23.

Mariman pointed out that despite progress, inclusive education still faces challenges, particularly in participation and quality. Discrimination, lack of child-friendly environments, and rigid school curricula that overlook diversity remain key issues. Quoting Minister Abdul Mu’ti, Mariman stressed that inclusive education requires collaboration among all stakeholders.
