MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALAYSIA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah had a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Anwar Ibrahim on Monday, March 3, at the Prime Minister’s Office in Putrajaya.
This visit followed up their previous meeting when Anwar Ibrahim visited Indonesia last year.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir stated that the meeting served as an opportunity to update the Prime Minister on the progress of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM).
“During our discussion, we provided updates on UMAM, and Dato’ Anwar Ibrahim expressed his full support for the university’s development,” said Haedar.
Haedar also noted Anwar Ibrahim’s enthusiasm when discussing Muhammadiyah and broader Islamic civilization.
“He was highly engaged in conversations about Muhammadiyah, Islamic civilization, and the Muslim world,” added Haedar.
During the meeting, the Central Board of Muhammadiyah extended an invitation to Anwar Ibrahim to attend and deliver a keynote speech at the Muhammadiyah anniversary celebration on November 18, 2025.
“Insya Allah, he will schedule his participation in accordance with state protocols and international relations,” Haedar stated.
The discussion also covered the strong ties between Indonesia and Malaysia, particularly under the leadership of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
“There is a mutual commitment between Indonesia and Malaysia to grow and develop together, strengthening both their nations and ASEAN,” said Haedar.
For information, Muhammadiyah delegates in the meeting were Perlis Mufti Dato’ Arif Perkasa Dr. Mohd Asri bin Zainul Abidin, Muhammadiyah Chairperson Syafiq Mugni, Muhammadiyah Chairperson Anwar Abbas, Muhammadiyah Secretary Muhammad Sayuti, UMRI and UMAM Rector Saidul Amin, UMSU Rector Agussani along with Vice Rector I Akrim, IBM Bekasi Rector Zaenuddin, and PCIM Malaysia member Sonny Zulhuda.
