MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, KARANGANYAR – The People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) speaker of the Republic of Indonesia, Ahmad Muzani, expressed his deep appreciation for Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah for mobilizing volunteers to help the country respond to disasters. He highlighted the important role of the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC).
“MDMC is Muhammadiyah’s efforts, our efforts as a society, to strengthen our nation. Their work reflects a powerful example of how community-based initiatives can build national resilience,” said Muzani at the opening of the Muhammadiyah–‘Aisyiyah Volunteer Jamboree at Wonderpark Tawangmangu, Karanganyar on Thursday, June 26.
Mazini mentioned that Indonesia’s geography makes it prone to disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods, or tsunamis. This reality, he said, requires strong social solidarity and cooperation at all elements of society.
“This is something to be proud of. The spirit of working together, gotong royong, should be shown across all sectors of our community.”
Muzani emphasized that not every country has a strong culture of volunteerism, but Indonesian people have values of solidarity, mutual care, and religious compassion.
“Our people have a natural sense of community and a strong spiritual foundation that shapes how they respond to others in times of need,” added Muzani.
Muzani also acknowledged Muhammadiyah contributions to Indonesian society, even before independence, through schools, hospitals, and social services that continue to serve communities today.
Without unity, cooperation, and a shared sense of responsibility, Muzani said, it is difficult to build meaningful relationships and serve humanity. Events like the volunteer jamboree, he added, showed that the spirit of togetherness remains to exist.
“This Jamboree proves that collective efforts are still part of who we are as a nation,” he said.
Muzani also encouraged volunteers to offer their help with genuine care and warmth.
“To all MDMC volunteers, Serve disasters-affected people with joy, sincerity, and a smile. That’s how we strengthen the relations of our shared humanity,” said Muzani.
