MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, KUPANG – Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti highlighted the significant role of Muhammadiyah in education. Mu’ti emphasized that Muhammadiyah has become a cornerstone of education in Indonesia.
Muhammadiyah operates a vast network of educational institutions. According to Muhammadiyah data in 2023, this movement has 5,354 schools. As of April 2024, these institutions educate approximately 1,054,000 students.
“Throughout Indonesia, Muhammadiyah has the highest number of teachers, including those who are contract-based government employees (PPPK)” said Mu’ti at the preliminary session of the Tanwir National Meeting at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kupang, on Friday, December 6,
He revealed that 10,000 of 110,000 PPPK teachers are Muhammadiyah teachers.
Mu’ti announced an upcoming policy change regarding P3K teachers. In the future, these teachers will not only be assigned to public schools but will also have the option to return to their original private schools.
Thus, the Minister called on Muhammadiyah to support the government’s efforts to provide quality education for all. He emphasized that the success of this initiative hinges on the quality of education and teaching provided by institutions like Muhammadiyah.
Mu’ti suggested that quality education could be achieved through both formal and non-formal means. He pointed out that the Muhammadiyah Department of Branch and Mosque Development (LPCRPM) and the Muhammadiyah Council for Community Empowerment (MPM) could play a crucial role in implementing quality education programs, especially in remote and underserved areas.
