MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah and Iran share a common stance in opposing oppression, injustice, and colonialization, while jointly striving to uphold justice.
This was emphasized by Syafiq A. Mughni, Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Central Board, on Tuesday (7/4). Syafiq stated the message following a meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, at the Muhammadiyah Headquarter in Jakarta.
“Injustice in any form must be resisted, and we must collectively uphold justice. People already know which countries are responsible for much of the injustice in the world,” he stated.
According to Syafiq, this shared perspective is not limited to Muhammadiyah and Iran alone. Instead, it is a part of a broader effort among various global entities, including nations and civil society groups.
“We agree that crimes must not be normalized. Attacking a sovereign nation is a crime and must never become an accepted norm,” he added.
He warned that normalizing such acts would lead to global disorder. Syafiq also urged all parties to reject the normalization of aggression between sovereign states.
Syafiq also called on nations worldwide to promote an anti-war movement. He emphasized the need for a global consciousness rooted in peace and non-violence.
“We stand against war. Anyone who initiates war must be held accountable morally, ethically, and within international relations,” he said.
He further encouraged religious organizations of all faith to amplify their voices in advocating for peace and anti-war initiatives.
Muhammadiyah’s Strategic Role on the Global Stage
Meanwhile, Yahya Jahan Giri, Chancellor for Education and Culture at the Iranian Embassy in Indonesia, expressed appreciation for Muhammadiyah’s strategic role in promoting peace and anti-war efforts.
He noted that Muhammadiyah is well known among Iranian scholars and religious leaders, who have followed its ideas, vision, and mission, which they consider relevant to global civilization.
According to him, Muhammadiyah’s global presence in various countries comes with greater responsibilities, especially amid increasing global instability.
“Given its prominence and expectations placed upon it, Muhammaidyah’s role will become even more significant in the eyes of the world,” he said.
He added that Muhammadiyah holds an important position in fostering unity within the Muslim world. He hope Muhammadiyah could contribute to peacebuilding efforts, including in the context of the conflict involving Iran.
“Such conflicts must be stopped. I believe Muhammadiyah has the capacity to contribute to that effort,” he remarked.
In the near term, he suggested that Muhammadiyah could play a key role by raising global awareness about the situation in Iran and providing informed perspectives to the international community.
