MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Muhammadiyah Chairperson of International Relations and Cooperation Syafiq Mughni emphasized Muhammadiyah commitment to promoting unity among Muslims and standing against injustice.
Syafiq stressed the need for Muslims to unite to confront global injustice regardless of their differences in belief or practice.
“For Muhammadiyah, Muslims should stand together against all forms of oppression. We do not view differences in nature or thinking as a problem as long as there is a shared spirit of solidarity and empathy,” said Syafiq in the visit of the Iranian Embassy’s representative to the Muhammadiyah headquarters, Jakarta, on Thursday, June 19.
According to Syafiq, Muhammadiyah agrees with Iran on condemning Israeli occupation and reaffirms its support for the Palestinian cause. He noted that Muhammadiyah continues to raise the issue of Palestine-Israel both within Indonesia and on international platforms.
“We have consistently called for unity among Muslim nations in defending Palestine. This has been shared in many forums, and President of Muhammadiyah, Prof. Haedar Nashir, has made Muhammadiyah position clear in official statements,” added Syafiq.
Furthermore, Muhammadiyah Chairperson of Tabligh, Community Da’wa, Islamic Boarding Schools, and Hajj-Umrah Guidance Saad Ibrahim encouraged the public to view Iran through a broader lens, especially in terms of its role in global affairs.
“Iran is a major global player that other powerful nations take seriously,” said Saad.
Besides, Secretary of the Muhammadiyah Department of International Relations and Cooperation (LHKI) Yayah Khisbiyah highlighted the importance of building meaningful partnerships through cultural and academic exchanges. She emphasized that such efforts can help correct stereotypes and foster better understanding, particularly about Iran.
“Some Indonesians are thinking of Iran as an overly fundamentalist country. That’s why we need cultural and academic dialogue to develop a more balanced and objective view,” said Yayah.
Yayah also appreciated the collaboration between Iranian universities and Indonesian Muslim universities. She hoped for further collaboration in the future.
