MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Muhammadiyah has partnered with PT Penjaminan Infrastruktur Indonesia (PT PII), a state-owned enterprise, to empower marginalized communities.
The partnership, implemented from 2023 to 2024, focuses on four areas: revitalization of access to clean water and community-based management in Timor Tengah Selatan Regency, East Nusa Tenggara; improvement of the quality of education and awareness of healthy living among the Kokoda tribe in Sorong Regency, West Papua; renovation and improvement of the management of religious places of worship for the Dayak Kenyah tribe in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan; and empowerment and economic improvement of coastal fishing communities in Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta.
The Muhammadiyah Council for Community Empowerment (MPM) will lead the implementation of the partnership.
“Muhammadiyah has a long history of commitment to social justice and empowerment,” said MPM Chair M. Nurul Yamin on Sunday, January 28. “This partnership is a natural extension of our work to improve the economic, social, and religious well-being of marginalized communities.”
PT PII’s President Director M. Wahid Sutopo said that the partnership is in line with the company’s commitment to sustainable development.
“As a Special Mission Vehicle (SMV) of the Indonesian Ministry of Finance, PT PII is not only focused on supporting infrastructure development, but we are also committed to having a positive economic and social impact on the communities around our projects,” Sutopo said.
