MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, BANDUNG – Muhammadiyah, founded by Ahmad Dahlan in 1912, has remained a resilient and thriving organization for over a century. This enduring legacy can be attributed to its members’ commitment to two key principles: active faith and amal salih (righteous deeds).
Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Dadang Kahmad emphasized that the spirit of combining active faith with amal salih is a cornerstone of Muhammadiyah identity. This legacy, left by Ahmad Dahlan, becomes a guidance for members as they navigate the complexities of a constantly changing world.
“Knowledge should be involved in confronting worldly problems. That is Muhammadiyah,” said Dadang in the Gerakan Subuh Mengaji (GSM) program conducted by ‘Aisyiyah of East Java on Thursday (July 4).
Specifically, Dadang Kahmad stressed the importance of knowledge, both religious understanding and science, to address the future. Both are integrated.
Muhammadiyah, then, translates this awareness into actions by establishing Muhammadiyah institutions (AUM) such as hospitals, schools, social welfare institutions, and many others. These institutions are a practical response to the challenges faced by the movement.
