MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, TEHERAN — The Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Syamsul Anwar made an official visit to Iran on Wednesday, September 25, to attend the 38th International Islamic Unity Conference.
The conference, held in Tehran, brought together Islamic scholars worldwide as part of Islamic Unity Week, commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. While Sunni Muslims celebrate the Prophet’s birthday on the 12th of Rabi al Awwal, Shia Muslims observe it on the 17th. The Iranian government has designated this period as an opportunity to strengthen unity among Muslims globally.
It aimed to strengthen relations of Muslims by facilitating broader dialogue among various Islamic groups around the world. The primary focus of the conference was on issues of Islamic unity, particularly the resistance against Zionism, which is widely perceived as a threat to the global Muslims.
Syamsul Anwar’s presence at the conference highlighted Muhammadiyah commitment to actively participating in initiatives that promote Islamic brotherhood on a global scale.
Besides attending the conference, Syamsul made a visit to meet representatives of the Muhammadiyah Special Branch of Iran (PCIM Iran). The Chairperson of PCIM Iran revealed that Syamsul also held discussions with the PCIM Iran.
“We discussed the potential of Muhammadiyah cadres studying in Iran, particularly in the field of Irfan, which needs to be explored further within Muhammadiyah,” said the Chairperson of PCIM Iran Syahrul fRamadhan Yusuf. He added that three Muhammadiyah members are currently pursuing studies in Irfan in Iran.
The discussion also touched on the experiences of Muhammadiyah cadres in carrying out their religious practices in Iran. Syahrul emphasized that Iranian society is very tolerant of differences in religious practices.
“Syamsul advised the Muhammadiyah cadres studying in Iran to return to Indonesia, taking good experiences and leaving negative ones,” said Syahrul.
