MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, GARUT – Muhammadiyah launched the Darul Arqam Clinic in Garut Regency on Saturday, April 4. The clinic establishment aims to provide affordable and high-quality healthcare while improving the people’s quality of life.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir stated that the clinic is part of Muhammadiyah broader effort to address challenges in healthcare and education, two key areas that remain underdeveloped in the region. He mentioned that it was crucial to build sustainable systems to drive progress.
“Garut has great potential to grow, especially in education and healthcare. However, these areas still pose significant challenges for Indonesia. Our progress is often hindered by a lack of sustainable systems,” said Haedar.
He emphasized that Muhammadiyah has long been a pioneer in establishing institutions that benefit society. The Darul Arqam Clinic reflects the values of Surah Al-Ma’un, as interpreted by Ahmad Dahlan, which guides Muhammadiyah work in education, healthcare, and social welfare.
Haedar also encouraged a progressive and modern approach to religion, urging Muhammadiyah members to embrace change and innovation.
“Religion should drive progress, not hold it back. Ahmad Dahlan taught us to reform our understanding of religion so it can guide us in becoming a modern and relevant movement,” he explained.
He added that Muhammadiyah should be led by individuals who are forward-thinking, grounded in faith, and committed to noble values. The Darul Arqam Clinic, he said, embodies these principles by striving to serve the community with compassion and excellence.
“The clinic’s mission is to promote health and well-being among the community. If it grows into a hospital in three years, that will be progress. If it doesn’t, that would signal a step backward,” emphasized Haedar.
The Darul Arqam Clinic stands as a practical example of Muhammadiyah’s vision to improve healthcare access and contribute to a healthier, more productive society in Garut and beyond.
