MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID KUPANG – Muhammadiyah reaffirms its commitment to bringing prosperity for all, highlighting the importance of creating a more equitable and prosperous society.
President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir mentioned that the theme of the Tanwir National Meeting and the 112th Anniversary of Muhammadiyah, “Bringing Prosperity for All” affirms the movement’s dedication to fostering a society where all individuals, regardless of their background, can enjoy both material and spiritual well-being.
Prosperity is not merely an economic concept; it is a holistic vision that encompasses social, cultural, and spiritual dimensions. Muhammadiyah views prosperity as a fundamental right that should be accessible to all members of society.
The movement’s devotion has earned it widespread recognition. A recent survey conducted by the Kompas Research Development (Litbang) found that 91% of respondents view Muhammadiyah positively, strengthening its position as one of Indonesia’s greatest religious organizations.
Muhammadiyah’s commitment to inclusive prosperity is rooted in the Indonesian Constitution. The movement actively promotes the implementation of Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, which emphasizes economic justice and equitable distribution of resources.
Haedar quoted a national figure Mohammad Hatta, emphasizing the importance of equality to prevent social inequality and criticizing the deviations of capitalism-based economic policies.
The Islamic concept of “Baldatun Thayyibatun wa Rabbun Ghafur” (a blessed land and a forgiving Lord) becomes a guiding principle for Muhammadiyah efforts to create a harmonious society that both material and spiritual needs are met.
“Muhammadiyah believes that humans have a divine responsibility to care for the Earth and ensure the well-being of all its inhabitants,” said Haedar at the Opening Ceremony of the Tanwir National Meeting and the 112 Anniversary Reception of Muhammadiyah at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday, December.
To achieve these goals, Muhammadiyah has undertaken numerous initiatives in the fields of education, healthcare, and social welfare. By providing quality education, affordable healthcare, and various social services, Muhammadiyah is working to empower communities and reduce inequality.
However, Muhammadiyah also acknowledges the challenges posed by global issues such as climate change, conflict, and economic inequality. Additionally, the organization is mindful of the rising issues of Islamophobia and internal divisions within the Muslim world. To address these challenges, Muhammadiyah emphasizes the importance of moderation in Islam, known as Islam Wasatiyyah.
At the national level, Muhammadiyah advocates for the integration of Pancasila values into all aspects of Indonesian life. The movement believes that a strong moral foundation is essential for building a just and prosperous nation.
“Through collaboration, Muhammadiyah is committed to building a more equitable and prosperous Indonesia. This is in line with the aspirations of our founding fathers as enshrined in the 1945 Constitution,” said Haedar.
